Why Virtualisation?
Our VDS servers offer clear advantages over traditional dedicated servers:
- Rapid Disaster Recovery
- Easy Backups
- Fast Scalability
Virtualisation allows you to run multiple operating systems, or Virtual Machines, on a single hardware server - the host machine.
A Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) is one type of virtual machine. Specifically a Virtualised Dedicated Server is different from a Virtual Private Server (VPS) because VDS servers are allocated a dedicated portion of the host server. By allocating a dedicated portion of the host, a VDS server is able to provide guaranteed server resources, in much the same way as a normal dedicated server. This is in contrast to a VPS, where all the virtual machines share the host's resources.
Because the host's resources are shared on a VPS, this can mean that at peak times a VPS will run very slowly or suffer from low memory. With a VDS server, these problems are resolved.
Be Back up and Running in Minutes, Not Days!
The other advantage to a VDS server is that because it is virtualised, the entire "virtual disk" can be copied. This means that it's possible to back up a VDS is much the same way as you would back up an ordinary file. This approach also means that should a disaster strike, and you need to restore your server from a backup, it can be done in minutes rather than hours or days.
